My & my first love, my dad courtesy of The Memory Journalists. I admit it. I'm sentimental. Downright emotional. I cry over movies, books, pictures, songs, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (EVERY SINGLE TIME). So when it came to picking out the songs for our wedding they had to be PERFECT. They had to evoke the emotion and stop everybody in their tracks. Yes. I am ridiculous.
I searched high and low for my Father/Daughter dance song. I am totally a daddy's girl and I wanted everyone to know it. I had a one song in mind from the beginning. Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion. This song really said a lot of what I felt but it was also a song that I really associated with both my parents. So just in case I searched on. Then there was the I Loved Her First by Heartland. So sweet. Sweet, sweet, sweet. But suddenly everyone was using it and I have to be just a little different. So one random day I logged onto iTunes and they were offering me a free song. I downloaded it and found my perfect song. Your Joy by Chrisette Michele. I heart this song very, very much. I still cry every time I listen to it. It says every single thing I ever wanted to tell my first love, my father. Once I discovered the song I hid it away. I told very few people because I loved it so much I didn't want anyone to know about it. And when the time came to take my dad's hand and dance with him just one more time as his little girl I cried and laughed and cried.
So if you are looking for the perfect Father/Daughter song have I got one for you. Check out the lyrics.
Your Joy
by Chrisette MicheleWalk down the sidewalk
Staring at your feetSo by your sides I could keep
Hold your hand much bigger
Never wanted mine to grow
Inside your palms just so
No one loves me just like you do
No one knows me just like you do
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours
You'll always be my father
And I'll always be your joy
Lay me on your belly
Nights when mama wasn't home
Lightning made me shiver
And you never let me feel alone
I tried to match your breathing
Beating my little heart against yours
Perfect were the nights we were sleeping
I never want to end what we are
'Cause no one loves me just like you do
And no one knows me just like you do
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours
You'll always be my father
And I'll always be your joy
One day he'll come on bended kneeAnd ask my love away from thee
And when I give my love to him
You'll always have a place within
One day he'll come on bended knee
And ask my love away from thee
And when I give my love to him
You'll always have a place within
No one loves me just like you do
No one knows me just like you do
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours
You'll always be my father
And I'll always be your joy...
