Tip - Air Out Your Dress

While I know we've mentioned this before, I've been seeing a lot of brides lately that are forgetting to take their dress out to let it breathe a few days before the wedding. Your dress needs to lay in it's natural state without being crunched up inside a bag. This could also save you some steaming time on the day of.

Tip - Be Sure Your Dress Fits Comfortably

Make sure to do a trial run with your dress before the big day, including a last fitting leading up to the wedding. Ask your alterations specialist what the absolute deadline would be for alterations before the wedding in case you lose or gain a few. No matter which way you falter, you want to make sure your dress fits perfectly on the day of.

Tip - Let Your Dress Breathe

Don't forget to take your dress out a few days or week before the wedding and let it breathe. Don't forget to fluff it frequently. If your dress is at family or friend's house, make the trek or ask them to take on the responsibility. If you're dress touches the floor when out of the bag, consider placing a towel underneath to avoid picking up dirt.

Trend - Vera Wang Adds Color

Cruising some of our favorite blogs, I came across a recent post at What Junebug Loves, sharing the unique, colorful designs for the 2010 Vera Wang collection. The color palate is soft and subtle but makes a statement in such beautiful shades.

Tip - Keep An Open Mind

When starting to try on bridal dresses, it's a good idea to have images of gowns that you like from magazines, photos, etc. Also try to keep an open mind and try on at least a few gowns that differ from your assumed style. You may be surprised with how much you like the dress or at least find new elements about the gown that you are attracted to (sweetheart neckline, fabric color, lace, beading, train length, etc.).

Dress Trials!

Ok...so I have to say that so far my dress trials have been the hardest thing about planning our wedding! I tried on over 40 dresses and went in with no idea about what I wanted. The team at Bella Donna Bridal Salon were great and had me try on tons of different dress styles: with beading, no beading, with rouging, fitted satin, organza, netting...

After weeks of trying on dresses by Pronovias, Casablanca, La Sposa, Melissa Sweet and others, I finally found the dress...it's a Jasmine Couture. While I can't share the dress that I selected for fear of Mr. Detonator seeing it, here are a few that I didn't select, but were still super fun to try on! The last one was choice #2!

Trend - A Splash Of Color

As brides continue to personalize their wedding day in different ways, we are seeing the trend of color appearing in bridal gowns. Colors are appearing in bows, lacing ribbons, hand-painted organza or beading details, or a complete dress with multiple fabrics filled with progressive color.

Trend - Styles Recycled

They say that if you wait long enough, every style cycles back through as a trend again. Well 1930s movie star elegance is influencing the bridal gown trends for 2009! Full draping sleeves, and sleek neck and back draping with splashes of sparkle are hitting the runway.

David's Bridal Says I Do to NYC!

Congrats to David's Bridal for taking a bite out of the Big Apple with the Grand Opening of their Manhattan store this morning!

"The nation’s leading bridal retailer celebrated their grand opening this morning by literally “unveiling” their first-ever Manhattan store via a gigantic bridal veil and tiara adorning the façade of the building, announcing David’s says “I do” to NYC. Talk about a grand entrance in the fashion capital of the world! To coincide with the grand opening celebrations, an in-store raffle will also reward one lucky bride-to-be with the dress of her dreams each week, through March 15th – something you New Yorkers can smile about in today’s economic climate! Tip - Don't Let Marks Become Stains

Don't let a stain get you down! If you're worried about your bridesmaid or wedding dress having a lipstick smudge or dirt spots on it, know it doesn't have to become a permanent part of your dress. Martha Stewart Weddings has a stain removal checklist and how to chart that can also come in handy as a newlywed. Check it out!

Tip - Consider Alterations Carefully

You've found the perfect wedding dress and now it just needs the perfect fit. Ask your bridal salon who they recommend and ask that seamstress for referrals or to see recent work they've done. While it may sound silly, you have spent too much money on this amazing dress for someone to potentially ruin it. Also, ask your recently married friends who they worked with and their experience.

In the Sacramento area? Consider Alterations by Patina.

Tip - Don't Shirk Going Shorter

Don't be afraid to try a shorter wedding dress (knee or cocktail length). You shouldn't feel like you have to go floor length because it's traditional. You can pick a shorter dress with some traditional elements incorporated, like lace, beading or ruffles and still look wedding chic.

Tip - Consider the Season When Picking Your Dress

If you've been looking at dresses to find your perfect match, consider the season you're planning to get married in. If you've dreamed of a backless, halter dress but plan to get married in the middle of winter, consider adding sleeves, a complementary jacket or a cashmere wrap.

Tip - Consider Agility

When trying on wedding dresses, consider how much moving around you plan to do. If you know you'll be limboing later or moonwalking be sure you have a dress that allows for ample movement.

During your bridal and bridesmaid dress shopping excursion, be sure to keep in mind that your dress should complement the reception setting and the bridesmaids dresses should harmonize with your dress and the reception design.Photo courtesy of Profinish Design

Tip - Choose A Bathroom Buddy

As silly as it may sound, be sure to enlist a friend in your bridal party that feels comfortable accompanying and holding your gown in the ladies room. In most cases, there's way too much dress there for you to take on at such a crucial time.Photo courtesy of The Memory Journalists

Tip - Know Which Underwear Go Under There

Be sure to try on all undergarments with your wedding gown. This also applies if you're planning to change into a different dress for the ceremony. Dresses with exposed back are in, but you need to be sure that you have the proper bra or corset for that dress. You also want to make sure that you don't have panty lines if your dress hugs. Don't be caught sharing more than you'd like!
