Trend - Floral Vases/Holders Making An Impact

Sometimes the container that holds the flower makes a big impact. If you choose a vase, cup or different container that plays into your theme, that can be the focal point and you can use less flowers as a filler.

Trend - Offbeat Themes

Why follow suit? Choose an offbeat theme for your wedding reception. Maybe invite your guests backstage at a rock concert.

Trend - Decorating With Crystals

Crystals are a simple decor item that can add that glitz and glam feel, while cutting down on floral costs. Sometimes your florist has crystals that they will use in your design for a nominal rental fee or they may be able to rent them from an outside source. Crystals add a unique look when combined with florals! Photo provided by The Memory Journalists; design by Blooms by Martha Andrews

Tip - Follow Up With Vendors

A blog we stalk....Anderson-Green Events touched on the very sensitive subject of follow through with vendors. While we all expect the same level of professionalism across the board, sometimes misguiding vendors slip through the cracks. Lisa touched on this subject in a recent blog post and we agree, if you're not hearing from your vendors, they need to hear from you. Check out her original post here.

Trend - Back To Basics

With the country in a recession, many couples are opting for basic design elements like curly willow, moss, minimal flowers and crystals strategically placed to add simple elegance to any ceremony or reception.

Tip - Bring Samples

When meeting with your florist, if you're unsure of what types of flowers you like, bring magazine tear outs of designs, reception, bouquet, and ceremony that you like and explain why. If you know there's certain designs that you don't like, bring samples of those too. This will help guide your florist and formulate a plan.

I am excited to share that we are planning a real Dynamite wedding, meaning all the professionals involved so far are Dynamite Experts. Well, our wedding will be an opportunity to showcase a real Dynamite wedding where couples can see that those we recommend are truly trusted professionals. While Mr. Detonator and I would be grateful to work with all the Dynamite Experts, we could only choose a few for our 100 guest wedding. The experts we are excited to be working with are:

Trend - Designs Aren't Just For Florals

Flowers aren't the only thing welcome in a bouquet or centerpiece any more! Many brides and grooms are opting to include other elements that make them unique: twigs, thistle, moss, branches, leaves, feathers, jewels, monkey tails, berries, etc. There are so many options. Don't limit yourself to seasonal blooms. Ask your florist what other elements they can include to make your floral designs one of a kind.

Tip - Know What You Don't Like

Sometimes the task of sitting down with a wedding vendor and discussing what you want at your wedding can seem very overwhelming, so here's another way to approach it. Let your vendors know the elements that you don't want incorporated into your wedding. This may be easier to start. If you don't like hearts, lace, tulle, artichokes, buffet styles, etc. make this known to your florist, rental company, caterer, etc.

Trend - Blooming Place Settings

Not a huge flower fan, but looking to incorporate florals tastefully to add texture? Add a single bloom to each napkin's place setting. It gives texture to the tables and adds elegance to the place setting.Photo courtesy of The Memory Journalists

Trend - Grand Reception

Colin Cowie, party planning professional, tells Modern Bride about some recent reception trends he's been seeing. "Wedding design has gone from minimalist to a lot more embellished, but with modern shapes and clean lines. Beading or fabric trim on a table overlay is beautiful, and crystals on linens, place cards or menus is a wonderful way to add sparkle. Couples are also editing their guest lists more to have a smaller wedding that's high quality. And instead of black tie, it's cocktail attire. More fun, less stuffy!"

Thanks to Colin and Modern Bride for sharing!

Check out a recent event that our dynamite coordinators and Colin Cowie attended! Check out Cat and Colin together.
