Cloud Nine - Chicken Nuggets To Chicken Tetrazzini

From Chicken Nuggets to Chicken Tetrazzini

Some of us are born with an innate ability to whip up culinary delights. Others of us are not. Don’t panic if, like me, you find your self in the latter category. The great thing about getting married is that you suddenly find yourself the proud owner of so many fabulous kitchen gadgets (Some of which you may not yet be able to operate let alone identify, but that will come). Let it motivate you to experiment with new recipes. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to cook an elaborate meal each night. Take it slow and set a personal goal for whatever is most attainable. Start with attempting a new dish twice per week and work up from there. Try cooking together. You will find fun and romance in a most unexpected place… the kitchen. Choose a menu that excites you both and make it a date!If you both work, nightly cooking can be an extra challenge. Here are some tips to hopefully make your life a little easier:

1. Plan your meals for the week in advance and do your grocery shopping on the weekend. That way you don’t have to run to the store for that one necessary ingredient!
2. Cook extra large batches so that you can divide and freeze for later.
3. Use that fancy, self-timing crock pot that you received as a wedding gift to let your meal slow-cook all day while you are gone.
4. In the past few years, businesses such as ‘Dinner My Way’ (www.dinnermyway.com) have gained in popularity. At the store, you can choose from a monthly menu, make as many meals as you like, and take them home to freeze. Or for an additional fee, they make them for you and all you have to do is pick them up. Your husband will never know your little secret!

I am a HUGE fan of epicurious.com (gourmet and bon appetite magazines combined). I do a search for a specific ingredient or two that I have in the house and then sort the recipe results by the highest rated. I always get amazing results and I get to read other people's results before I begin (a great way to learn from others mistakes).

Once you get comfortable with a few basics you can start experimenting with seasonal produce.

My hubby has two weekdays as his days off, so I designate those days as my real cooking nights. We open a bottle of wine and sit down and enjoy ourselves.

Foodtv.com also has a large assortment of recipes. It is so fun to alter those templates to fit your taste and style.

I love recipeczar.com. And I LOVE the crockpot. It is the best invention ever!
