Color, color, color! Monochromatic or mixed color -- either combination is hot! Bright colors are in. Brides are moving away from wedding whites and becoming adventurous and bold with color.Tip - Check for Hidden Fees
Make sure you ask what is included when you get a quote from your limousine vendor.

Many brides have been taken aback when they ask for a ‘complete quote’, only to find out that extra fees and gratuity have not been included. Beware of any company charging tax – there is no sales tax on limousine service in the state of California.

Trend - Showcase the Sweets
Remember the cake table! Layer in different levels, adding textures of fabric and more color all make for a grand presentation of your signature dessert. No longer just for the “cut the cake” photo but a presentation all it’s own. Rent extra plush fabrics to match the richness and bold color of your cake… Flowers between the cake layers, blown glass stands, beads and beautiful crystals all add the sparkle and shine your cake deserves!Trend provided by Slip of Elegance Chaircovers

Tip - eSessions A Must
Engagement Sessions are a MUST! - When choosing a photographer check to see if their packages include an engagement session (or eSession as I like to call them). An engagement session really allows you and your fiancé to build a rapport with your photographer that is vitally important come your big day. You get to see the way your photographer works, and your photographer gets to see how you handle being photographed. eSessions are also a time for your photographer to learn about you as a couple and witness your physical chemistry as well as how you emotionally connect to each other. eSessions also provide beautiful pictures of you as a couple in a more real world setting than your wedding day which is a great way to preserve how you interact on a normal day.Plus, who doesn’t love an awesome picture with their sweetie?

Our Furry Bundle of Joy
Dusting-off Date Night
When you were a kid there was pizza night. As a teenager, there was staying over at your BFF’s night. In college it was more like girl’s night out or wow-that-guy’s-super-hot night. The men had (ok, let’s be honest here, have) game night. And fight night. And then game night. Again. But most times, once you're married all your nights can have a way of running together into one continuous “need-to-get-some-sleep-because-I got-to-get-up early-for-work” night. When it’s not that, it’s laundry night, grocery night, or in-laws are coming over this weekend and I need to clean night. So whatever happened to date night?
Nothing. It’s still there…it’s just hidden under a pile of clothes. All you and hubby need to do is pick it up, dust it off (leave the clothes, trust me, they’ll be there when you get back) and take it out on the town.
My hub’s and I make an effort to have date night at least once a week…sometimes it’s a fancy Friday night date at the hottest restaurant. Other times it’s a Saturday miniature golf duel to the death. When we're feeling especially blessed by the time gods, we'll make a whole weekend out of it. However, more often than we like, life gets super hectic (as the little bugger tends to do) and it’s a Wednesday night homemade meal followed by a movie and popcorn. (But it's never Tuesday night, because that's his playing-basketball-with-the-boys-night...and my night to watch all my tivoed guilty pleasure girl shows that I will DENY, DENY, DENY I have ever seen, should anyone ask!)
90 Whole Days
I remember the above moment so clearly. I remember thinking, "Wow. We did. I did it. I'm married to the man I love." It was such a clear moment. A moment of happiness, disbelief, relief, excitedness and pure love. I made myself concentrate so much when we said our vows. I didn't want to miss a word. But it all happened so fast and suddenly there we were walking down the aisle and on the road of our married journey.
So happy anniversary Hubby! The last three months have been full of love, laughter and compromise! But I wouldn't have missed a second and I can't wait for the next 90 years!Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Trend - Animal Prints Are In!
Tip - Behind the Scenes Photographers
Choose a photo pro whom you feel extremely comfortable with and don't mind inviting backstage. Some of the most beautiful wedding moments happen while the bride is dressing, while the family is waiting, or during the reception when the couple steals away for a kiss.

Who’s the Real Hero?

I need some advice! How do I get my husband off Guitar Hero? There is something about this game that he loves. I understand that once you get something new, it’s exciting and fun, but this is getting old. I love music, but hearing the same song over and over and the “babe, I almost got it on expert, just one more try” line is getting old. Why can some crazy electric guitar noise and a “you rock” make him so happy? I’m going to chalk it up to entertainment value, but before long, I may have to think of a distraction strategy.

Trend - Tradition Outside the Church
Couples seem to be really looking for unique locations that match their style & most often want to have their ceremony & reception in the same location…church weddings seem to almost be a thing of the past but the connection with their minister is still very important.Tip - Capture the Memories
You can’t expect your photographer to catch all those “candid” important moments if they happen as quickly as a sneeze. Remember to pause at key points, like when your dad gives you away, relish the moment. It’ll make for a better captured image.Tip and photo provided by The Memory Journalists

Tip - Floral Themes
Easy. Start with an inspiration piece. It could be as simple as a color, or as complex as your Grandmother’s lace pattern on her tablecloth. A good designer will be able to direct you towards flowers and styles that enhance your theme. It is amazing how many complete themes have come into fruition by a single inspiration piece. Brides can actually walk away and have a good picture in their mind’s-eye of the finished product. Very exciting stuff!

Trend - Sample Food Stations
However, our favorite trend is starting the honeymoon a bit early with a station dedicated to the location and cuisine of your honeymoon destination. From tropical Hawaiian treats to wintery wonderland soups, this is a special treat for your guests and a memorable way to personalize your wedding.Trend provided by Capital City Catering
A little splash of color

I opted to wear TWO pairs of shoes. I wore these NaNa flats during the ceremony and then these Unlisted by Kenneth Cole flip flops (sorry, I was unable to find them anywhere on the net. Thus the photography by me!). They both matched my dress perfectly, but now that I think about it I shouldn't have gotten some burnt orange flip flops!

Survey Says - What Would Have Made Your Day Easier or Better?
What would have made your day easier or better?
A wedding coordinator.
- Kate, married in 2007
A wedding planner!
- Rebecca, married in 2003
It would have been easier to have the ceremony and reception at the same location. Time was wasted in the transportation and it left less time for photography. For us, there wasn’t really a way around this since we had decided to have a church ceremony.
- Kirsten, married in 2006
More time!
- Bree, married in 2007
Our wedding day was truly wonderful – I honestly can’t imagine being happier with it. Having a coordinator made the day-of so easy for all of us (as easy as it can be!)

Ignite the Flame - Something Hot In the Kitchen...Besides You
Whether you are naturally gifted or have to work at it a little, the end result is the same. Your thoughtfulness and love will show through in whatever you prepare. So maybe you don’t feel so much like a Martha Stewart. Don’t fret!
- Try something like a simple pasta dish followed by ice cream with homemade cookies (buy pre-made dough if you have to).
- If you’re thinking you could give Martha a run for her money, whip up a hearty beef stew and serve with crusty bread. Finish dinner with a warm fruit crisp and your man will be putty in your hands!
- Remember to pair his favorite beverage as well; a nice Spanish Rioja or perhaps a pint of Guinness.
Men love to feel taken care of (remember girls: it’s primal for them) and a little home cooking from his lady love will be sure to light a spark between the two of you. So don the apron (and apron only if you wish) and inspire a scorching hot evening!

Cloud Nine - The Blended Family
It is challenging in itself to be a new bride, to balance the elements of life; work, home, friends, extra curricular activities, etc. Now add the one element that takes more commitment and time than any other: kids.
It can be a little tricky to adjust to the role of new bride, continue to develop your relationship with your husband, and be the available parent that you need to be.
- Remember, children need to adjust to new situations too (just like adults), so patience is essential. They can often feel unsure of their new role in the family.
- Reassure your children that you have enough love for every family member. You may find it helpful to point out that there will actually be more love and attention to go around with an extra parent in the house. In order to avoid feelings of being “left out” and/or the urge to compete for attention, be sure you spend one on one time with your child or children as often as you can. It is equally important for your child(ren) to spend alone time with your new husband as well, to facilitate growth in their relationship.
- Keeping the lines of communication open between you and your child(ren) is another important task. Family meetings can be a useful tool and an appropriate venue for each member of the family to discuss problems or issues in a safe and controlled atmosphere. It is empowering for children to have a platform to identify and vocalize their concerns and will encourage open communication between everyone in your home.
In the midst of all of this change and adjustment, it is vital for you and your new husband to spend alone time together too. Taking the time to strengthen your bond will support a stable environment within the new family. Although it can seem demanding at times, blended families can be as successful as the time and patience you invest. Keep a positive attitude and allow everyone time and space to adjust. Remember, love and happiness brought your new family together…so live, love and be happy!

Dear Marvin,It's great to have the support of family and in-laws on your Big Day. While their intentions start out straightforward and fiscally sensible, sometimes emotions and opinions trump rational. They may not realize how they're affecting the wedding day, financially and emotionally. The best thing to do is sit down and make a list of all the things you have planned for your wedding day. From that list, you and your fiance need to discuss what is essential to make your wedding day special. Ask the same task of your parents and in-laws and then start cutting out, or minimalizing, the unnecessary items. Some of these items, you could cut down costs on by doing some of the labor yourselves. This is where the families' support will kick in to high gear! Don't be afraid to speak up or ask for help; they will appreciate your prudence.

Trend - "Kings" Head Table
A great table or Kings table will include your wedding party and their dates.Having a head table like this is nice for the Wedding Party and for their guests who may not know many other guests at the wedding.
Trend and photo provided by Pfeiffer Event Planning
Tip - Let's Give 'Em Something To Talk About

- For a modern wedding, battery operated LED lights, unusually shaped clear glass or metal vases and exotic flowers would give the table that “Wow” factor.
- For a garden style wedding fruit and vegetables, mossy terracotta containers, live herb plants and hand crafted candles would lend a lived in and living feeling to your guest tables.
- For a glitzy and opulent wedding, pull out all the stops by using crystals, gold or silver painted manzanita branches, strands of pearls, masses of fragrant garden style roses and faux diamonds sprinkled on the table will make your guests feel like royalty.

Rain, Rain, Go Away
As the rain pours down and the Sacramento area is hit with another storm, I started thinking about the poor couples out there who might be getting married this weekend. Here is the thing about weather and wedding days - Rain can make for a beautiful and romantic wedding - as long as you have a backup plan! If your wedding is October through May, here are some tips to follow to help ensure that your day happens without a hitch:- Have umbrellas on hand for the wedding party (like the super cute polka dot Totes umbrella pictured above).
- If wind is in the forecast, choose a hairstyle to withstand gusts to avoid your curls being stripped away or wisps in your face.
- Again for wind, a tip courtesy of weather.com: Secure tiny weights to your veil to prevent it from blowing in the breeze. Fishing weights are a great option because of their small size and you can spray-paint them to match your attire.

Tip - Bright Colors, Bright Day!
Don’t be afraid to use bright colors! Weddings do not have to be in muted tones – use kiwi green ribbon on your programs or use hot pink roses in your bouquet. The bright colors will show up beautifully in photos and add a little something extra to your special day.

Calling all Bridezillas!
Bridezilla (a portmanteau of bride and Godzilla) is a generic term used to describe a difficult, unpleasant, perfectionist bride who leaves aggravated family, friends and bridal vendors in her wake. A bridezilla is obsessed with her wedding as her perfect day and will disregard the feelings of the family, bridesmaids and even her groom in her quest for the perfect wedding.
Answer these quick questions to find out if you have what it takes to be a Bridezilla! Tally up the points next to your answers and find out if you should be fitted for combat boots or Manolos!Quiz courtesy of Bridezillas on WE
19-24 - Congratulations! You're a Bridezilla! You've aced Bridezilla bootcamp, and are now the most accomplished player on the team!
Okay, so seriously I was totally NOT a bridezilla. I promise! But I have a better understanding now of the "Bridezilla" than when I first started watching this show. I first started watching it for the pure entertainment. Yes, it is kinda funny to watch someone slowly lose their mind. It's also entertaining to try to watch sane people deal with insanity. But now? I watch out of sympathy. I watch to know that someone else at times wanted to pull out their hair. I watch because sometimes you do want to scream at the top of your lungs and kick the dresser (one girl actually did that! She's lucky she didn't break at toe!) Some of these girls don't intend to demanding and hurtful. You just get to a point of your brain about to fall out of your head. There are 1000 decisions to make and once you make those there another 100 for each! That's a lot of decisions people. Trust me. So the next time you see a Bridezilla headed your way just smile and move to the side. She is on a mission people and the steamtrain known as "wedding" stops for no woman, man or child.Trend - Creative Favors Serving a Purpose
Using practicality in designing favors has become more commonplace. Your programs on a hot day can serve the dual purpose as fans. You can supply bottles of water with your picture on them. The ideas are endless!

My Surprise Christmas Gift
Because I received one, I will fill you in. You first laugh out of nervousness, then read the instructions and act like you are interested in the one paragraph about the “tool,” which include snippets like “use caution.” By default you ask, “Why did you get me this?” in hopes that the answer is nothing like “So you can cook for me.” You put it on and then realize it can go on either hand, “nifty.” You stick your hand into a candle flame and go “Hey, it really does resist the heat” until your brand new OveGlove turns a little black. Finally you start to think you could use it, maybe.Well, in all honesty, I have used the durable hand cover and now I am actually glad I got it. First, because I think it is hilarious that my husband actually bought if for me. Second, because he went to three places to track it down. Third, because I don’t have to ruin the cute patterned oven mitts I have. Fourth, I can officially bake and cook without worrying about burns. Yeah!

Dear Marvin - My Two Dads
DILEMMA! I have two dads! My mom and dad divorced when I two and my mom remarried shortly there after to my wonderful stepfather. They have been a huge influence in my life and I love them both. But who do I pick to walk me down the aisle? I don't want to hurt either of them but I want to honor them both.
Signed,
Daddy's Little Girl times TWO

Dear Daddy's Little Girl times TWO,
What a lucky gal! This is a great problem to have! I have three suggestions for you. First, walk yourself down the aisle and have both of them meet you at the end of the aisle to present you to your groom. Secondly, have your stepdad walk you halfway down the aisle and have your biological dad meet you halfway and walk you the rest of the way down. Have your stepdad wait until your father presents you to your groom and then he can take his seat at the same time your stepdad does. Last, if you have a big enough aisle have them both escort you! Either way it sounds like your day is going to be full of love!
