Trend - Wine Tasting Stations

For those oenophiles looking for a way to incorporate their favorite wines into their big day, consider wine stations. For example, have a few different stations set with a different style wine from your favorite region. Perhaps your stations could consist of: Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache. I went with all reds, but you get the idea. ;) It's fun and gets guests talking.

You could even do this with different champagnes or even beer!

Share your passion with your guests and they may leave with a little more than a wedding favor. They could have a new appreciation for a wine they never knew about.

Tip - Creative Ceremony

If there are people that you want involved in your day that break tradition, remember that tradition is only a guideline, not a rule. If you are more comfortable having your brother walk you down the aisle, don't worry about the logistics of him being in the wedding party and escorting you. The most important part is including those that mean the most to you and your fiance on your big day. How things look is not a concern, it's how you feel in that moment that's important. Follow your heart.

Trend - Boldly Bridal

Add some flare to your bridal attire by bypassing the traditional diamonds and pearls and bursting with some colors brought by sapphires, emeralds and rubies.

Tip - Bridal Show Musts

I know you've heard it before, but as we start launching into the new year filled with must see bridal shows and events, be prepared.

1. Bring a buddy (if your fiance is unavailable). It helps to have a buddy to pal around with for the day and they can gather info for you to review later so you don't have to stop at every booth.
2. Print informational stickers before hand (for drawings or to receive more information).
3. Wear comfortable shoes!
4. Know your goals. If there are certain vendors that you still need for your upcoming nuptials, be sure to stop, visit and gather info from all those applicable at the shows.

Can you think of any other tips for brides visiting upcoming shows? Leave your advice to save another bride from a rough day.

* Don't miss the Dynamite Weddings workshop this March. We are offering limited registration so sign up early!

Trend - Stunning Outdoors

Many brides and grooms are beginning to move their receptions outdoors to enjoy the rich scenery and incorporate the rich colors into the design elements of their day.

Tip - Scaling Back

To scale back on your bar bill, consider offering beer and wine only and if you absolutely want to offer hard alcohol, only offer a few well liquors (like vodka, whiskey and rum). Allow a few mixes without allowing drinks to become too complicated. You could also only offer hard liquor during the cocktail hour before dinner and then only have beer and wine. Have red and white wine passed as seating begins for dinner and most guests won't be disrupted by no hard alcohol.

Over 1000 Posts in 2008!

We had over 1000 posts in 2008!!! Chalk full of tips-n-trends, tidbits, and planning resource information for all couples getting married and for those couples heading into their first year of marriage. We have several columns that I'd like to make sure you are aware of.
First off - we have TNT - Tips-n-Trends offered daily. So make sure and bookmark our blog! In addition we have other random posts during the week.

We continue to have our Ask Marvin column - a place where brides are encouraged to ask troubling questions. Whether you need some planning advice, or just need some suggestions on working out the kinks in newlywed life - feel free to write in and ask Marvin anything at marvin@dynamiteweddings.com

We have our column Cloud Nine. Cloud Nine focuses on the newlywed stage of your life. Post wedded bliss. Topics include sex, kids, money, household, all the things that you have to combine as a couple and all those things that will need to be worked out as a couple, choosing the color of the walls, etc. Things that you need to consider - creating trusts/wills, babysitter choices, buying or renting a home, and much more.

Another fabulous column is Ignite the Flame. This column focuses on how to keep the Flame in your relationship once married. Date Night ideas, saying I Love You ideas, saying I'm sorry ideas. This is different than Cloud Nine in that it is more about the romance of marriage.

Spotlight On - sheds light on some very good vendors that we recommend you interview for your wedding needs. Take a look at these Dynamite Vendors!

And we have Real Weddings, submitted by both brides and photographers. We've been trying to post one a month but as our queue is getting larger, we'd like to start post Real Weddings more often. Please feel free to inquire about submitting your wedding at realweddings@dynamiteweddings.com

We hope you've enjoyed reading our posts this last year, and we look forward to sharing more information in the coming new year!

Destination Tahoe!

Since announcing our engagement on the blog we have been taking wedding planning slowly. We are thinking about getting married this summer in North Lake Tahoe and I have been thinking that I would like our ceremony (and possibly reception) to take place on the beach. I am reaching out to those that could possibly have some suggestions on venues to check out. I'm not opposed to having our reception indoors but would like to have a fantastic view of the lake. We're expecting around 100 guests. Thanks for the help! :)

Cloud Nine - Be Prepared (part 2)

After last week's post Be Prepared we received an email from LegalZoom revisiting the Top Articles of 2008. One of the articles was 10 Things You Must Keep in a Fireproof Safe. This seemed like a great follow up to last week's reminder.

"The threat of fire isn't unique to California. In fact, the US Fire Administration estimates that fires nationwide caused more than $11 billion in property damage in 2007. Although 91% of Americans agree it's important to prepare for a disaster, only slightly more than half have taken steps to do so.

One great way to make sure you're prepared is to get a fireproof safe. What should you store it in? Here's a list of the top 10 suggested items to keep in your fireproof safe:

1. Current insurance policies and agent contact information. You'll need this information right away if your house suffers damage in a fire.

2. Your family's passports and original birth certificates. These can be a hassle to replace and will come in handy to establish your identity for other purposes.

3. A list of your family's doctors, prescription medications, and contact information for all pharmacies you use. You may need these to get new supplies of medications you use on a regular basis.

4. CDs or an external hard drive containing digital copies of all family photos. It's a good idea to scan all older family photos and keep a digital copy of them as well. Your family memories as preserved in photos are irreplaceable.

5. Safety deposit box keys. If you store valuables at the bank, you'll want to make sure you can access them in the event of an emergency.

6. Important papers related to investments, retirement plans, bank accounts, and associated contact information. You may need ready access to funds.

7. Information on your outstanding debts, due dates, and contact information. It's important to keep tabs on your finances and protect your credit, even if you're displaced by a fire.

8. Original Social Security cards. These can be difficult to replace and may be needed to establish eligibility for aid.

9. Copies of your important legal documents, including powers of attorney, living wills, health care proxies—both for yourself and for anyone else for whom you are designated attorney-in-fact or health care surrogate. Having access to these can help ensure the protection they were created to provide.

10. Copy of family wills and all wills in which you are designated the executor. It's important to safeguard wills so that loved ones are taken care of."

Tip - Wedding Day Fireworks

Let's explode into the new year! The fireworks last night may have inspired this post.

While we know you'll have fireworks during your first kiss, consider fireworks for your reception. If you're looking to include fireworks at your wedding, check Party Pop or contact the American Pyrotechnics Association for information on vendors and availability in your area.

Trend - You're A Star

Many couples and/or their families and friends are sharing pieces of their lives together in a video montage to share with all. Some couples are going the extra mile to include their guests by trying to add at least one photo of each guest. You could add it towards the end of your slideshow, with a brief screen that says "Thank you for sharing our special day" and then follows with pics of each guests. Too cool!Photo provided by The Memory Journalists
